Antonio Negri is an Italian philosopher, writer and independent researcher. Among his numerous publications are The Politics of Subversion: A Manifesto for the 21st Century (Cambridge: Polity Press, 1989, originally published in French in 1986), The Labour of Dionysos: A Critique of a State-Form (1994) and, together with Michael Hardt, Empire (2000).
After nearly 14 years of exile in France Antonio "Toni" Negri 1996 returned to Italy to serve out the remainder of an extensive prison sentence. He returned in order to act as a catalyst in the resolution of the untenable situation experienced by hundreds of people held in Italian prisons and exiled from Italy because of their involvement in extraparliamentary political activities during the tumultuous nineteen-seventies.
